Hair Designs.

Final Hair Designs.

Design number one is a half up half down hair style with tight ringlet curls at the back. Inspired by early images of Elizabeth where her hair has been left down. Then there is a scraped up bun on top of the head with two large plaits to wrap around the edge of the bun. After this to make this look more contemporary i decided to draw in some small pieces of hair greased down to the face in a more urban style in a wave pattern. I like this look but if i decide to use it, it will need a lot of editing and trials to perfect it as I am not entirely sure this style will suit my face shape and isn't very cohesive with my idea of urban Elizabethan hairstyling to create a modern day look.

Inspired by FKA Twigs and her hair styling signature look.

After creating the urban look above i decided i wanted to try out and even more urban and almost ghetto approach to the hair style, making it the most contemporary that it can be. I thought about all the different types of braids that can be created for the hair and the ones that are often used today. I thought then about corn rows and the way they have become more in fashion over the years and are often used in catwalk shows and high fashion photography shoots. I thought about how the corn rows could work on the head and decided underneath to have a large messy bun where the hair has been so backcombed it stays up by itself and can be moulded into shape. I thought the idea above was good because then there is the crimped frizz and volume, only it is at the bottom, and then the tight plaits that add structure and texture to my design. I then thought about maybe adding embellishment and drew some pearls into my design to add to the traditional symbolism i have been researching about which would reflect of the wealth and status of the character i have been creating. I think this look will end up being my final design because i feel very passionately about it and can see how it can evolve and grow in my head.

Inspired by a tight up do as seen on the catwalks of Valentino.

The last design i have created is very simple and i am not very happy with the outcome. i think i could have and maybe will create a new design to replace this one. i chose to put two large bands of plaits that wrap around the head to create a clean look and add the high forehead effect that Elizabethan women would have coveted. the rest of the hair would then be crimped and scraped back into a tight bun that frizzed out and becomes a large messy effect. i think that i could improve this design more with further study and practice doing the braids. However i don't think i have made this look as contemporary as some of the others which means it won't really match with the makeup looks i have created to accompany the hair style.
