Contemporary Inspirations.

Contemporary Inspirations.

Givenchy

I have been looking at Givenchy a lot for my project as the clothing and jewellery created by this company are decedent and highly embellished like that of the Elizabethan era.

I chose hair styles that have braids because i definitely want to incorporate braids into my design while also having the new and modern feel of a slick back, tight to the head look. These wet look designs also hold a lot of impact on the viewer they catch attention which is good for my character  study for the lady in waiting, Lettice, as she has an heir of confidence about her and has lavish things that all her husbands gave to her. I think Givenchy has a good start base for my hair style ideas as i want the perfect middle parting and the perfectly neat lines that these hairstyles have. I also like the swirling pieces of hair that are slicked onto the head and i like the idea of creating a really urban contemporary look that is inspired by the Elizabethan era with large braids and volume. I think the slick pieces of hair that would be on the face would really bring the hairstyle into the 21st century and create an amazing contrast to a lot of modern Elizabethan designs.

Valentino

I like the braiding and pulled back, scraped off the face hair styles from the Valentino haute couture SS/11 and S/S15.  I like the idea of flowers as embelishment rather than  pearls or jewels however i wouldn't use this in my design as the symbolism is not correct for regality and the high status symbols that were shown in images from the Elizabethan era. I also feel as if the lower image with the flowers adds an innocence and daintyness to my character which shouldn't be there as my character is promiscuous and wild.

Chanel

S/S 10
This heart shaped up do is very similar to Elizabethan hair styling if there was no fringe. I like the silver and blonde streaked hair cut and the back piece that has been lain over the middle parting of the hairstyle. I think i could use this in my design idea as i like the idea of changing my character to become a foreign beauty as i am greek so i will not as easily be able to pull off being a pale english Queen as my skin tone is darker. I could lay a golden band across my middle parting to create an Arabian or Persian feel to my hair design as well as adding embellishment like the Elizabethan era and creating a regal hairstyle.

FKA  Twigs:

FKA Twigs is very well known for her hair styling which includes many braids and twisted knots of plaiting.  Her voluminous hair styles with large amounts of frizzing almost create a ghetto and urban inspired hair design that has many similarities with the Elizabethan era.  I still really like the idea of using baby hairs slicked down into small spirals onto the head.
